Community Service

The Los Angeles Symphonic Winds are actively involved in a number of community events.

Each year, the LA Winds hosts a high school band festival on the campus of Pierce College. This festival provides local high school bands with an opportunity to perform and to be critiqued by college band directors. Following the high schools’ performances, the LA Winds performs for the students.

The LA Winds has also performed in support of the Los Angeles Sight Center, the Pacific Lodge Boys’ Home, and the Sisters of St. Louis at St. Mel Catholic Church.

The LA Winds is sponsored by and have forged a strong relationship with Los Angeles Pierce College and the Los Angeles Community College District. The group has performed annually at the Pierce College graduation ceremony for over twenty years. The band takes pride in being able to participate in the commencement ceremony and give back to the college that provides it with so much support.

Additionally, the LA Winds has the honor of being invited to play at the inauguration of Darroch "Rocky" Young as Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District. It was a great privilege for the band to be able to perform for the incoming Chancellor, his family and friends, and so many college administrators, college presidents, and members of the Los Angeles College District Board of Trustees.

Each year, the LA Winds performs at the Warner Park "Concerts in the Park" series, sponsored by the Valley Cultural Center. The LA Winds takes tremendous pleasure in being able to entertain an audience that can top 30,000 people. In 2006 and again in 2008 the LA Winds was the headline act for Los Angeles Councilman Dennis Zine's "Valley of the Stars July 4th Extravaganza" featuring a fireworks show synchronized to a live performance by the band.
